I'm supposed to be doing my homework (which I've had 2 weeks to do, but didn't, and now it's due tomorrow).
I cannot focus because I am unhealthily preoccupied with halloween.
I bought a fog machine yesterday. Oct 28th is my day. I've got tricks up my sleeve. |

School has left me flabbergasted(?) once again. The more I learn, the less I know. I never feel more unsure of myself than when I have 50+ people disagreeing with me and no support. Art History is killing me slowly, in a sad, discouraging way. I can spew out facts and dates with the best of them, but I cannot find the words to form opinions without profanities or stumbling uncertainities. I do not think what they think is important is actually important, and vice-versa. And I when I talk, I use even worse run-on bumbling sentences than the ones I write. Broken fragments of ideas that never quite explain things right. I don't know what art is, I truly don't. And I am amazed that all these people seem to know EXACTLY what it is. I missed something somewhere I think. I never got that "This is LIFE", and "This is ART" set in me. I missed that chapter I guess. |

It's been a very grown-up year for me. We got a house and an art studio that we love. I'm working fulltime and still doing the school thing. Things are strange and long, like life is strange and long.
I'm happy that the only thing we disagree on is cereal flavors and what color to paint our room. But count chocula and anything cinnamon&sugar is gross and red is a disturbing color...
Things are good. And I realize not that much has changed I guess. I also realized that I would still probably do Robert Smith. And my next big purchase is either going to be a cello or the nintendo wii. so maybe not everything comes in phases.

"i think that most artists are hypersensitive when it comes to their own mortality. When they sell their artwork, it's not necessarily about the money - it's about the fact that if someone is willing to pay to own a piece of art, they will protect it from the world - therefore securing the artist's immortality." |

I've mellowed out A LOT these past couple years I think. I don't have the whole anger/temper thing going on anymore, and I try very hard to be more patient. But lately I've found that instead of exploding in anger like I have been known to do, I keep everything in and displace it onto people that are undeserving. I am equally as frustrated, but now I try to grin and bear it. I'm a little tired of it. I am not a patient person, and I am not a person that is quick to forgive and forget. In my mission of trying not to be such a cunt, I think I've lost some of my backbone.
I have to re-establish myself. |

Things have been going well. A little too well for my suspicious mind. But I'm enjoying it nonetheless.
My job has turned into horseshit. So if anyone knows anyone that would like to employ me, that would be excellent. I have fairly good work skills, I am pretty responsible and I am a clean person.
The studio is going wonderfully. I wish I had more time off to work on it. I'm thinking about getting volunteers to just hang out there so we can keep it open more often. Anyone want to gallery sit?
I've finished some paintings, and our opening show I do believe was a success. The place was great, the people were great, and then some.
My new paintings:

Our opening show:

For the first time in a long time, I'm gushing with happiness. It's this 24th year luck I've heard. Right? Every 12 years is your year? I sometimes get my superstitions mixed up. |

The studio is coming together nicely. We are going to finish painting the walls this week, and start on the floors. If anyone has every painted a floor before and can give me some tips, I would greatly appreciate it. Has anyone ever used patina on a floor?
Also, if anyone wants to help paint or donate paint or supplies that would be awesome too.
I think we'll be there all day Saturday if anyone wants to drop by and see the space and/or help out.
It's upstairs in the Commerce Street STudios - 1551 S. Commerce Street, just North of Wyoming. All the way in the back, down the hall - the room with the HUGE metal door.

Well, I've spent every goddamn cent I had on my new art studio/gallery. Not the best move I've ever made financially, but hey, what are ya gonna do?
I'm excited and scared and broke and excited. And also excited. It's an old building, smells wet for some reason. 450+ square feet of dust and mess and it's all mine. The walls are teal, which will not work for me, but everything else is perfect. PERFECT! I have a heavy metal door that slides like a meat locker, an office space and my own bathroom to pee in.
This weekend I hope to paint the walls (if anyone wants to help, and likes painting walls) and move some paintings and supplies in to make room in my house. Also I am going to get a file cabinet to be organized. This is probably unnecessary, but I like lists and have always wanted a file cabinet.
And so my plans are:
1. Have a showing every First Friday and Third Thursday. 2. Try to be available and open on weekends. 3. While I'm there on weekends, paint BIG now that I will finally have space! 4. Get a membership/volunteer group together to raise money to keep the damn thing open, have group shows and meeting with cookies and punch and a clipboard of notes. 5. Keep the studio open and available to other artists and good ideas.
That's the gist of it I guess. I also need some things if anyone knows where I can get them for cheap or better yet, free:
A table, some folding chairs, an armoire or vanity (to lay flyers, cards, etc. and use as a bulletin board), track lighting, and other little things like house paint, paint rollers & trays, drop cloth and painter's tape, tag board or poster board, screenprinting ink, oh and money.
So there we go. Wish me luck. |
